Michael Santoli
Michael Santoli has a talent for absorbing a lot of information in real time and then synthesizing it into understandable, insightful takes. An astute observer, Santoli does all of this as the senior markets commentator at CNBC, the business news TV channel and platform.
He has a knack for getting to the heart of the matter quickly, no easy feat given the complexity of the markets these days.
I knew him when we both worked at Barron’s, the financial weekly, some years ago. Even as a younger reporter there, he had established himself as an expert on the markets and a generous colleague who would patiently explain how, for example, stock index futures worked.
Income Matters Today spoke with Michael recently to find out what he’s watching in the markets, which are off to a rough start in 2024, and to glean some thoughts about income investing. He’s also a perceptive observer of baseball, which he played through his college years, and IMT put his knowledge to work there, too.
